How the free typing certificate works
The typing certificate is a one-page image that records the result of a typing test you took on EnjoyTyping. It is free, there is no sign-up, and it takes three steps:
- Take a 1, 3 or 5 minute test. Start with the 1 minute typing test, or pick the 3 minute or 5 minute version for a result that carries more weight.
- Open the certificate from the result screen. When the test ends, choose the certificate option under your result.
- Type your name and download the PNG. The certificate is drawn in your browser and saved as an image file you can keep, print or attach.
Because the image is created on your own device, your name and result are never uploaded to us.
What the certificate shows
- Your WPM (net words per minute, counting correct characters only)
- Your accuracy
- The test length (1, 3 or 5 minutes)
- The difficulty you chose (Easy, Medium or Hard)
- The date you took the test
- The name you typed in
Test length and difficulty are on the certificate on purpose. A 70 WPM result on a five-minute Hard test says much more than the same number on a short Easy one, and anyone reading the certificate should be able to see that.
What the certificate is, and what it isn't
Be clear about this before you use it: the certificate is self-issued. It is not an official credential, it is not proctored, and EnjoyTyping does not verify who took the test. Anyone can type any name into the name field. It is a record of your own result, like a screenshot with a cleaner layout.
That makes it useful for tracking your own progress, for classroom goals, or for sharing a milestone. It doesn't replace a proctored test when an employer or school asks for one. Many employers run their own typing assessment during the hiring process no matter what certificates you bring.
Tips for using it in a job application
- Use a 5 minute result. Many job typing assessments run for five minutes, so a result of the same length is the most relevant. A 30 second score isn't offered on the certificate for this reason.
- Choose Medium or Hard difficulty. Results on common short words look inflated to anyone who knows typing tests.
- Put accuracy first in your mind. If a listing asks for 45 WPM at 95% accuracy, a certificate showing 50 WPM at 98% is more convincing than 65 WPM at 89%.
- List the number, not just the file. On a résumé, a line such as "Typing: 60 WPM, 97% accuracy (5 minute test)" is often more useful than an attachment. Keep the certificate ready if someone asks.
- Be honest if asked. If an interviewer asks where the result came from, say it was a self-administered online test. Then be ready to take their test and match it.
- Retake it close to the application. A recent date shows your current speed. If your speed has improved, download a new one.
Frequently asked questions
Is the typing certificate free?
Yes. There is no charge and no account. You can download as many certificates as you like.
Is the certificate accepted by employers?
It depends on the employer. Some are happy to see it as evidence, while many run their own typing assessment anyway. Treat it as supporting information, not proof.
Can I get a certificate for an older test?
The certificate is created from the result screen right after a test. To get a new one, take another test.
Why is my name not saved anywhere?
The certificate is generated entirely in your browser, so your name stays on your device.
