How to play

Word Warrior is a side-scrolling typing fighting game. Enemies walk in from the right with a word above their heads. Type a word and your samurai dashes forward and cuts that enemy down.

  1. Pick a target. Type the first letter of a word. The nearest enemy whose word starts with that letter becomes your target and its label gets a yellow outline. The game avoids giving two enemies the same first letter.
  2. Finish the word. Typed letters turn dark and underlined. A wrong letter doesn't count: the label shakes and your combo resets, so just type the right letter and carry on.
  3. Switch targets. Press Esc or Backspace to let go of your target and pick another. The word you left starts over.
  4. Watch for the red "!". When an enemy reaches you, a red ! appears and its label turns red. Finish the word before it swings to PARRY: time slows for a moment and you earn bonus points. Too slow, and you lose one of your five hearts while the enemy steps back to try again.

Enemies and waves

Four waves bring 8, 10, 12 and 14 enemies. Skeletons walk in steadily, goblins run fast and strike quickly, mushrooms are slow but take two words (red marks on their label show how many are left), and flying eyes hover in wave 4.

Wave 5 is the boss, the Evil Wizard. He carries a full sentence with capitals and punctuation, and each sentence you finish is one hit. Every few seconds he charges a spell and a dodge command such as jump, roll or duck appears above your samurai. While it is showing, everything you type goes to the command and your place in the sentence is kept. Finish it before the timer bar empties to jump clear, or lose a heart. At 40% and 15% health he casts more often.

Combo and RAGE

Your combo counts words finished without a mistake. At 5, 10 and 20 in a row, points are multiplied by 1.5, 2 and 3. Every 10 in a row fills the RAGE gauge. Press Enter (or tap the RAGE button) and lightning strikes every enemy on screen. Against the boss, RAGE counts as two sentences and cancels his spell. The gauge holds one charge.

Difficulty levels

Easy Normal Hard
Enemy words 3–5 letters 4–7 letters 5–9 letters

Enemy speed slow medium fast

On Easy and Normal, longer dodge commands give you more time. On Hard you always get 1.6 seconds. Your best score is saved on your device for each level.

Tips

  • Clear the closest enemy first. It attacks first, even if a shorter word is further back.
  • Don't rush after a mistake. A wrong key is ignored, so take a breath and type the right one.
  • Save RAGE for a crowd of three or four enemies, or use it as a big hit on the boss.
  • Parry on purpose. When one enemy walks in alone, leave its last letter until the red "!" shows.
  • Keep your hands on the home row. If you still look for keys, a few typing lessons will make this much easier, and our guide on how to type faster explains what to practice.
